Blessings family and friends,
On behalf of the planning committee, I take opportunity to thank you all for your participation, help and prayers in celebrating Bam’s 90th birthday. Our intent was to give her the desires of her heart – two were, visiting the 911 Memorial and fishing, once again, on her favorite Long Island charter boat. Our joy, was preparing a surprise party while she was distracted with pullin’ up porgies. We planned a work and worked our plan – and praise God, everything was perfect.
If you were at Bam’s party, you know what a great time was had by all. It can be revisited throughout this mcsyd website. If you were not there, cousin James has made a timeline of the 48 hours of Bam’s N.Y. visit. Enjoy!
To, we, the descendants of John McLaurin (aka Pop Pop) Bam, is our surviving matriarch. Ninety years strong; self-sufficient; high energy and a stand-up comic as well. I love this woman! The thing that stands out to me about my Mom is her intellect – street smarts and book sense are rare combinations. Bam can complete any N.Y. Times Sunday crossword puzzle (you try, if you haven’t already). And she can give you good, private advice. She is wealth of family facts and funnies. She loves her family and friends, and especially loved her May 15th party.
Many don’t know, but Bam has been an usher at the First Baptist Church of South Euclid for the last 10 years. Our relationship is one of son, friend and pastor – and trust me, I know which one she is talking to. She loves the Lord Jesus Christ and has received Him as her personal Savior. Have you? Having seen so many dear family members go on to glory – have you evaluated the frailty of this existence? Will you stand before God with a court appointed lawyer – His name is Jesus – believing He died for your sins and, in fact, the sins of the entire world?
We love you family and friends, and it is our prayer that Bam will see you again soon.
Love,
Bruce Gregory McLaurin
My birthday weekend in New York was one of the most exciting times that I have spent in New York. My bucket list for the weekend was completed with more than I imagined although I had the feeling something else was up. Couldn't figure this one out though.
On Friday May 14, 2021 my 90th birthday, I visited the ruins and the sites of once was the "Twin Towers" in lower Manhattan. Of course it is now called the "One World Trade Center". What a remarkable building and sites to see, although my son, "The Pastor", I guess had a schedule for me to keep so I didn't see all that I might have wanted to see. I do think another visit there will allow me to see not only everything there is to see at the One World Trade center, but also give myself some time to see all of those people I didn't have the time to visit with, and possibly take some time to do some other things too.
On Saturday, my nephew took me out on the party boat on the Long Island Sound, and I had a great day out on the water. It too was one of the things on my bucket list and the weather held up nicely and the day was truly beautiful from start to finish. We did catch a considerable amount of Porgies and my nephew Spider was going to fry them up for us, but our schedule didn't permit it. Nothing like fresh caught fried Porgies.
After cleaning up and taking a break from fishing all day, dinner at one of Bay Shore's seafood restaurants on the South Shore Marina in Bay Shore was next for this day.
Of course our route to the restaurant was detoured when we entered the ballroom at the hotel we were staying at. My relatives got me. I kinda knew something was up, but couldn't figure this one out. A surprise party and celebration of my 90 years was taking place. I was totally surprised to see the number of people that showed their love for me. I did a lot of crying this night. It was one of the best events I have ever been a part of and will remember it for the rest of my life.
God Bless All Of You

This celebration of life for an extraordinary lady was not only a block buster for the honoree, but also an extremely moving and loving night for the attendees.
As one of the four members on the planning committee for this event I can honestly say all of the many months of planning and hard work paid off. This night will truly be one that I personally will remember for the rest of my life also.
My cousin Clarence Sydnor, the photographer took over 400 incredible photos and all in attendance are represented well. I want to take this time to inform all present at this event and not present, how they can obtain at no cost all of the photos. Once you have access to the photos, you can then decide if there are any you would like to have printed for your usage.
Down below is a link to my drop box which will allow you to see all of the images our cousin Clarence took that night. Of course, you will be able OPEN, DOWNLOAD, or COPY any images you would like to have for your usage. Please do not use the MOVE command to move anything. You will have to download and install the app dropbox on your device in order for this to work. Dropbox is just a storage location for personal usage that you can obtain at no cost.

If you need help with any part of this process, please feel free to contact me either by text, email, or phone. Text: 281-352-9702; Email: smartmouse@comcast.net; Phone: same as text.
These 400 plus images truly tell the story of this event. When you have time or a rainy day, browse through them all and enjoy.
Now that I have more time to myself these days due to "RETIREMENT", come back and look at what's happening on our family website.
