Most families have multiple reunions. Our family is no different. My grandmother (Mrs. Leola Lovett McLaurin) roots us to the Brown Family reunion, as her roots where in Savannah, Georgia. The Sydnor family roots go back as far as Virginia. It seems as though the Sydnors migrated north to the big cities of Philadelphia and then onto New York.
Saturday was the monster day for the reunion. The park inside and out was full of the color orange. Family members traveled from many parts of the country to be there. The food is always a major player at any reunion or all star event and the ladies hit it out the park with some vittles that surely might make you slap your mamma. Mr. Will on the grill never stopped bringing in meat off his smoker and there was plenty to go for all. He also doubled as D.J. with the box screaming outside.
In order to have a very successful reunion, the children have to be the biggest fans of the event. Indeed they were with all the sweet treats their eyes saw when they first entered the building. On the other side of the entry way there were all sorts of toys for them to take and keep. Outside there were huge inflatables and games. They were happy people.
An ongoing door prize raffle entertained both aldults and children throughout the event inside. Numerous awards were given out to family members. A North vs South tug-of-war took place outside with the North winning with a stacked team. A watermelon eating contest was fun to watch but definitely not fun trying to eat all that watermelon in a given time. One family member surely felt his attempt. A huge Jenga game set also provided fun for participants. Those who enjoyed dancing had that opportunity to showoff their line dancing skills.
To close out the weekend, on Sunday morning everyone went to the Zion Baptist Church which happened to be church many family members went to before they ventured out, or moved away. Reverend Smalls touched everyone in that church that morning. If you misse it, YOU JUST MISSED IT!
A box lunch was prepared for all to take as they said their goodbyes and departed for home.
Next Reunion 2026 Maryland
It hasn't been confirmed yet but stay tuned for that information when it becomes available. Some good crab eatin' there friend!
The North stacked their team with heavyweights and won this battle in less than 20 seconds.
These contestants really got a mouth full of melon baby! Notice the lone female contestant, Ms. Deanna Michelle. No contest just enjoying the melon.
The Brown - George family reunion took place in Savannah, GA during the summer of 2017. My grandmother the late Leola Lovett McLaurin is the McLaurin connection to this family reunion. Dora (Bambi) McLaurin is the oldest surviving McLaurin and she makes this event often. April Cobb of Savannah has been hosting this event for years. She and her other event coordinators have made these reunions memorable.
This family reunion in Savannah, Georgia is always eventful, fun, and enjoyable. Bambi McLaurin is shown at this event and she said she looks forward to attending the 2019 reunion too.
Meet And Greet Friday Night Family Dinner
I James K. McLaurin was fortunate back in August of 2012 to attend this reunion for the first time. I had just bought a new car and I thought I would break it in real good on a road trip from Houston, Texas to Savannah, Georgia. I had never driven through the Gulf Coast, so it was something to see.
That Friday night the family got together at the hotel for a meet and greet dinner. This is Savannah so I need not say too much about the food except it was off the hook baby! Everyone was down south friendly and warm. Saturday morning you were on your own, so a group of us decided to take the tour of Savannah. It was educational and entertaining. Forest Gump even took time to say hello to us on our tour. That afternoon the family met for a picnic in the park that had even more food than the night before. There were plenty of activities for young and old. That night a DJ came in and the party was on. On Sunday we all met at church and then recieved a travel lunch bag as we headed back home. It was a very delightful fun experience.
