For the better part of 40 minutes Monday night, an elusive championship was in Houston's and head coach Kelvin Sampson's grasp.
A victory would have have marked a breakthrough for a program and a coach who took the championship stage in San Antonio on similar trajectories.
Houston, in its seventh Final Four, is a program with a rich history and a proud lineage that features Phi Slama Jama, Hakeem Olajuwon, Clyde Drexler and Elvin Hayes. It's a history that does not include an NCAA championship.
Sampson entered Monday's game as one of the winningest coaches of his generation and a respected leader who's now taken two programs to three Final Fours and coached in 50 previous NCAA tournament games. His programs are mainstays in the second weekend of the tournament and beyond. But like the program he now presides over, Sampson does not have an NCAA championship.
Our family member Brooke Thompson is taking volleyball very seriously as she hopes to obtain a scholarship to college in two years. Only a sophomore, she's playing better competition outside of her school. Click here to see her in action. Way to go Brooke!

Within the MCSYD family, sports have always been a part of us. However, our family website has had no representation of the sports that our family members participate in now or the past,
Most of us grew up in New York and followed most of the professional teams there. Some of us now live in other cities or states and keep up with the teams where we live now. Some of us still love the teams we grew up with regardless of where we live now.
I am going to try and post all family members who are active in organized sports through school or private organizations.
Family may have started rivalries between members when their respective teams play each other. On this page I hope to recognize all teams and sports that our members enjoy following throughout our calendar year.
The highest paid college athletes—Bronny James, Angel Reese, Caitlin Clark—are already celebrities in their own right. They’ve captured the attention of the sports world by shattering records at the college level. They’ve amassed huge social media followings. And they’ve become objects of imagination, speculation, and hope as they consider going pro. Scroll down for the highest paid NIL athletes (mostly the highest paid college football and highest paid college basketball players).

Pictured above is your webmaster wearing his hat backwards taking a group photo with his tennis friends in Houston, Texas. Standing from the left: Your webmaster, Ali, Ram, Nacho, Mac, and Saheed.
Squatting from the left: Rob, Joe, Little Luis (Champ), and Errol. Ages range from 26-72. Your webmaster is 72. Average age is about 35 years. Saheed is the biggest hitter and best player as he hails from Nigeria. My physical exercise regiment over many many years has allowed me to compete against these men. Most important thing, we are all great friends.
Brooke is the granddaughter of your webmaster. She is a sophmore playing on the varsity volleyball team at her high school in Upper Marlboro, MD. Her hopes are to win a volleyball scholarship to some college or university that will allow her to increase her skills, possibly make an olympic team, and of course get a college degree.

Deion Sanders is expected to remain at the University of Colorado for the next season:
However, there is still speculation about Sanders' future:
Everyone knows that Michael Jordan plays golf and is very competitive at everything he does, and of course he gambles heavenly on his golf game. Although the pastor of our family isn't going to gamble on his game, he's says adamantly that he can beat Jordan. Man I liked to see him take down Jordan, and then get Jordan's autograph.
Basketball is a sport that our family has always enjoyed playing and of course watching.
Personally, basketball has shaped so many aspects of my life. With the grace of God's goodness, he bestowed upon me the gift of natural athletic ability which allowed me to obtained a free college education through basketball. Basketball stayed with me during my tour of duty in Vietnam. For three months during basketball season, I was allowed to stay in the Republic of the Philippines to play basketball on the base team. I grew up idolizing our New York Knicks and Walt Frazier.
However the Pro Game no longer interests me like it use too because the players are different, the game is different, and I think too much money for all the above mentioned has taken so much away from the game. Just my opinion. College hoops still remains as it was and probably much better as we see humble young athletes before they get to the Pros.
Yes, back in the day, my high school days were so much fun, especially for me being a high school basketball star. Everyone was very kind to me like they should be to all people whether they're noted or not. I loved those Friday's nights at our little gym on Long Island.
Coaches can be so instrumental in not only the development of one's skills, but can be very influential in the development of one's personal, social, and emotional growth. Although my uncles were my father when my father died, coach Beckel was one too. Although he has passed, he's not forgotten and to this day, I still speak with his daughter in California. Good people they are!
